CDS Energy Services completes fabrication works for Perenco UK Ltd exploration project

CDS Energy Services has completed a preform fabrication project for Perenco UK Ltd.

The works consisted of the design, procurement, fabrication and galvanizing of steelwork, which was delivered to Great Yarmouth for offshore transportation.

The steelwork will be used as part of Perenco’s partnership exploration project with Premier and BP at the Ravenspurn ST2 platform located in the North Sea. Exploration drilling has started on a potential carboniferous gas play in the UK southern North Sea block 43/26a.

Daniel Laybourne, Director at CDS Energy Services, said: “We are delighted to have had the opportunity to provide these services for Perenco, which will serve the delivery of the exploration drilling project at the Ravenspurn ST2 platform. This is the latest in a number of collaborative projects we have delivered with Perenco and it reinforces our expertise in the field. Through successful delivery of the fabrication works we feel that we have played an important part in this hugely significant exploration project.”

In 2015, CDS Energy Services completed a phased project to provide mechanical engineering services at Perenco’s Dimlington Gas Terminal in East Yorkshire. It was responsible for the fabrication of new mechanical components and installing them on-site to support Perenco’s multi-million-pound upgrade of the natural gas refrigeration system.

CDS Energy Services continues to invest in local talent as business grows

CDS Energy Services has continued to recruit locally in order to complete contracts throughout the energy industry.

The energy services business, which specialises in oil, gas, nuclear and petrochemical activities, has continued to further bridge the skills gap in the industry by recruiting locally. The company has a vast number of industry contacts, spanning more than 30 years, to provide further jobs for those living in and around the Humber, which is widely regarded as the UK’s energy estuary.

More than 30 skilled workers recently completed works at the Drax power station, all employed locally by CDS itself. CDS Energy Services continues to drive recruitment to ensure work quality is of the highest possible standard. The company continues to succeed winning contracts across on a national scale, and, as a result, has continued to drive a rigorous recruitment programme in order to provide further skilled jobs.

CDS’s Managing Director, Howard Laybourne, said: “CDS Energy Services prides itself in providing high-quality service solutions to the energy industry, and due to this, we have a recruitment programme in place to ensure we continue to recruit locally and create jobs based on the contracts. We continue to recruit skilled workers directly, rather than relying on agencies. This enables us to match, more precisely, the resources with our clients’ needs.

“It is through sustainably recruiting that we are able to contribute our efforts into bridging the skills gap in the industry and provide further energy-based skilled roles in the Humber region for work across the UK.”

CDS director takes on Inca charity challenge

A director from CDS Energy Services has taken part in the challenge of a lifetime, travelling to South America to climb one of the wonders of the world in aid of the charity Teenage Cancer Trust.

Daniel Laybourne, one of our directors, travelled to Peru in March, to climb Macchu Picchu, the lost 15th century Incan city built high in the Andes. Along with three friends, the team managed to raise more than £5,000 for the charity.

Daniel said: “We chose this challenge after we lost a close friend of ours to cancer in 2011, as it was his wish that we did all we could in the future to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust ward at Castle Hill Hospital in Hull, where he spent his last months.

“The trip was incredible; challenging at times but also an amazing experience. We were all really proud to participate in raising funds that will help the thousands of children that rely on the Teenage Cancer Trust.”

The Inca Trail is South America’s most iconic trek, and also one of the world’s toughest. Tracing the footsteps of an ancient civilisation, it travels north from the old capital of Cuzco through the verdant Sacred Valley and the ruins of Ollantaytambo, then on to the forgotten city of Machu Picchu.

CDS Energy Services completes fabrication project for biomass facility at Lynemouth Power Station

CDS Energy Services, an experienced and highly-regarded oil, gas, petro-chemical and nuclear business has completed a complex fabrication project as part of a £25 million investment at Lynemouth Power Station at the Port of Tyne in South Shields.

The work was carried out to support a new automated biomass rail-loading facility, which will handle up to 1.8m tonnes of wood pellets annually to meet the requirements of Lynemouth Power Station.

The system will transport the wood pellets to three purpose-built silos, and then on to Lynemouth Power station via two separate conveying streams.

CDS Energy Services’ fabrication team performed the design, detailing and full fabrication of steelwork gantries and trestles which were used as part of the installation. The steel installations will be built upon by another contractor, Spencer Group, which is responsible for the construction of this standalone facility at the port.

Danny Laybourne, Director at CDS, said: “We’re very proud to have been selected to work on this important project which will play a major role in the UK’s renewable energy production.

“CDS is a keen supporter of renewable activities and aims to minimise its impact on the environment wherever possible. We have made significant investments in our facilities and machinery to help our environmental compliance targets.

“This project further outlines CDS’ strong position in the energy industry, demonstrating our capabilities to work on major transformation projects at ports and power stations. Our fabrication team has worked extremely hard to produce the essential steelworks that will help meet Lynemouth Power Station’s transportation needs.”

Lynemouth Power Station was acquired by leading European energy group Energetickỳ (EPH) in January 2016. EPH has since confirmed that plans to convert the power station to biomass were proceeding according to schedule.

CDS receives UVDB accreditation

CDS Energy Services has received Achilles’ UVDB accreditation, which has cemented its reputation as a trusted supplier to the UK utilities industry.

Over 30 utility companies and more than 35 of their contracting partners use the UVDB system to qualify their supply chain, with the scheme’s standard assessment of management systems and site performance guaranteeing quality business operations. The company went through the comprehensive application and auditing processes required for the accreditation, and received excellent scores in all categories.

Launched in 1996, the pre-qualification system helps to manage risk within the supply chain by giving suppliers the opportunity to connect with key industry players and ensure strong working relationships. It also drives industry best practice with its stringent verification criteria.

This adds to CDS’ already long list of accreditations, having recently received a Sellica pre-qualification certificate, as well as renewing its FPAL registration. CDS offers a wide range of services, from bespoke projects to turnkey solutions, and these accreditations will increase the company’s visibility in the utilities industry, allowing it to further build on its significant portfolio of projects.

CDS sponsors Humber Triathletes

CDS Energy Services is continuing its support of sport in the Humber region with its sponsorship of local triathlon club Humber Triathletes.

Members of Humber Triathletes range from beginners to experienced GB representatives, and the club organises a number of local sport events, including the Hull Triathlon.

CDS Energy’s sponsorship will enable the club to fund the community events it co-hosts throughout the year, helping the promotion of one of the fasting growing sports in the UK throughout the local area.

Following the success of so many Yorkshire athletes at the Rio Olympics, including the gold and silver medal-winning triathletes Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, CDS’ support of clubs like Humber Triathletes will help them continue their work to inspire the next generation of champions.

CDS has a long history of supporting local sports programmes. Over the past few years the company has lent its support to Hedon Rangers AFC, Hull Ionians RUFC, East Hull ARLFC, West Hull rugby league club and boxer Tommy Coyle. More recently, CDS sponsored the Hull United under 8s football team, providing brand new football kits and track suits.

CDS receives pre-qualification certificate reflecting capability and skill

CDS Energy Services has recently received a pre-qualification certificate for Sellihca, and is now a full registered supplier of several specialist energy works and units.

Sellihca is a supplier register and pre-qualification system used by the Nordic utilities to manage supplier information and risk within the supply chain, and enables efficient procurement in accordance with EU regulations. The system aims to provide a fair, open and transparent means of selecting suppliers, simplifying the tender process and offering new business opportunities for both buyers and suppliers.

Having undergone a comprehensive application and audit process, the pre-qualification will assist CDS Energy in its aim of continuing to deliver high-calibre and complex projects for the industry, whilst also aiding the tendering process, making the company more visible to relevant customer groups.

CDS’s success in achieving this pre-qualification is also testament to the success of its business operations, which will now be even more transparent, allowing buyers to be sure of the company’s expertise even before starting the tender process.

CDS ENERGY GAINS CHAS ACCREDITATION

CDS Energy Services is delighted to announce its recent accreditation within the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS).

The standardised assessment scheme was developed in 1997 by a group of health and safety and procurement professionals from across Great Britain. Working alongside the Association of London Government (ALG), the aim was to improve health and safety standards across Great Britain and also reduce duplicated safety applications for both suppliers and buyers.

Contractors and consultants applying for work with public and private sector organisations must be able to meet the buyer’s health and safety standards in order to be successful in winning work.

CHAS has become a widely recognised accreditation and a prerequisite for many organisations in the tendering process, demonstrating compliance with health and safety law. Organisations are accredited after demonstrating compliance with and sound management of current basic health and safety legislation.

The three-stage assessment process takes account of organisations’ health and safety policy statements, company organisation for health and safety and specific health and safety arrangements, acceptable to potential buyers.

Accreditation within the scheme is of great value to CDS Energy Services in aiding the efficiency of tendering processes, but also in demonstrating the firm’s continuous commitment to health and safety throughout all of its operations.

It is hoped that the accreditation will stand the company in good stead for securing a variety of contracts over the forthcoming months.
